Many people ask us,
whether on Catholic holidays such as Easter,
or on May 1st the holiday "Labor Day",
or on Ascension Day, but also on April 25th "Liberation Day"/Liberazione "and on August 15th on Assumption of Mary "Ferrragosto" have the shops open and whether the weekly markets are taking place?
Here we reproduce what those responsible for the cities of Como and Chiavenna have told us ;
On May 1st
-the weekly market takes place regularly. Instead of and
-the shops have permission to be kept open.
According to experience with special opening hours, approx. 50% of the shops are open. (Statement by the responsible bodies)
On the Catholic holidays:
Green Thursday, Good Friday, Easter (Easter Monday), Ascension, Pentecost, Assumption of Mary (15 August), Corpus Christi, All Saints' Day (November 1st)
the shops in Italy are open and the street markets also take place, as there are no Catholic holidays more (since 1995) !
