With an iron will to live, the Italian mountaineer Marco Confortola, who had got into mountain difficulties, continued his agonizing descent to base camp after he had reached the summit of K2 on August 1st.

K2 is the second highest mountain on earth and is considered by mountaineers to be far more demanding than Mount Everest, if not the most difficult of all 14 eight-thousanders.
