Konrad Adenauer spent his vacation on Lake Como for the first time in 1957. On many hikes and from the water, he enjoyed the beauty of the landscape. Nevertheless, the Chancellor was always on duty here, preparing decisions and receiving politicians from home and abroad. However, when his daughter Libeth, Lotta and Ria accompanied him to Cadenabbia, it could happen that things weren't quite as strict at the Villa La Collina holiday home.
A German building contractor had big plans in the 1970s for the Villa La Collina in Cadenabbia , built in 1899. The land should be built on, apartments should be built. Fortunately, it didn't happen. In 1977 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung bought the villa and expanded it into an international meeting center for politics, business and art. Thanks to its location, it has become a popular place for r Meetings and congresses developed. And the lake has elicited quite a few poems from the participants in the author's workshop.
Konrad is in many works of art and photographs Adenauer is still present in the Villa La Collina today.
While the property had a rather gloomy charm in its time, today it is bright, inviting and open to all visitors. Anyone who spends a few days on Lake Como benefits from the convenient location of the place: there are ships and ferries to the other bank, and the most beautiful section of the lake extends directly to the south: the Tremezzina .
The Villa La Collina has meanwhile been recognized by the Federal Republic of Germany as a "memorial of national importance".
