Near the Como lake promenade, in a neoclassical building from the 1920s, is the museum dedicated to the inventor of the battery, Alessandro Volta, Como's most famous son. In his memory, all the universities in the world at that time had marked marble slabs laid in the building.
The Volta Temple was inaugurated in 1928 and houses a collection of instruments by the physicist Alessandro Volta . In 16 showcases there are 234 exhibits, sorted according to a chronological criterion. A visit to the temple is a must for those interested in science.
Alessandro Volta became famous for his discoveries and inventions, but above all for his invention of the battery. The unit of electrical voltage (volt) was named after him.

Volta tour
Como is proud of its most famous head: the world-famous physicist Alessandro Volta. He lived and lectured on the banks of the Lario- and he has left traces that you can still walk on today. Anyone who goes on the Volta tour will notice a lot of Como's charm.
Volta was born on the street named after him ( Via Alessandro Volta, 62 .) in house number 62, which was renovated in the 19th century. The baptism took place in the Chiesa di San Donnino . instead, which stands in Piazza Volta. Today a statue commemorates the electricity researcher. The later inventor of the battery and discoverer of methane gas grew up on Via Volta 5 in Brunate . He conducted his experiments in the Torre Gattoni . (Corner of Viale Cattaneo/Viale Varese) where he set up his first laboratory. The instruments he needed for this, the first battery and personal relics are in the neoclassical Tempio Voltiano . displayed . Volta often and happily drove to Gravedona for relaxation and summer vacation; where the family owned a historic noble house very close to Plalazzo Gallio.
Volta was not only the inventor of the battery, for example, he also brought the potato back from a trip through Savoy in 1777, an enrichment of the Menu.
