The Silk Museum of Como was founded in 1990 to document the history and the production process of the silk industry. It offers the possibility to trace the whole path of silk: from the breeding of the silkworms to the spinning of the yarn to the manufacture of the fabric and its printing to the finishing of the silk.
In the Museo della Seta are on 900 sqm many historical and modern machines can be visited, as well as instruments and looms that were booked for production between 1850 and 1950.
The silk museum also houses a digital archive and library , Clothing collections and accessories keep all witnesses of the creativity around silk production.
On foot you can reach the museum in approx. 20 minutes from the cathedral. Entrance on Via Castelnuovo, 9 in Como
Open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturday 10.00-13.00. Sundays and public holidays for groups with reservation.
