Sightseeing tour east bank
Your holiday home on Lake Como is an ideal starting point not only to get to know Lake Como, but also the nearby Valtellina with its steep, sunny vineyards or its world-famous ski resort (Bormio). To go shopping in Milan, comfortably by train in about 1 1/2 hours from Colico directly to the center of Milan. Or a detour to nearby Ticino with Lugano or the Engadine with St. Moritz.
Our Lake Como east bank tour starts from Domaso:
Domaso is an ancient fishing village (the neighboring town is Gravedona), where you can still watch the fishermen at work in a typical small harbor. Today Domaso is arguably the most popular place in the whole area, and it is protected because of its climate. Domaso offers the most beautiful beaches on Lake Como, a dry microclimate with a warm breeze that invites you to swim and do water sports, an extensive hinterland with a variety of hiking opportunities, and various restaurants are characterized by high Hospitality.
It is worth visiting the "Villa Camilla", in whose park various species of rare camellias can be admired, and the church of "St. Giovanni" with its bell tower.
Two kilometers to the north from Domaso is Sorico , the last town on the western shore of the lake. You can visit the parish church of Santo Stefano (12th century) and the oratory of San Fedelino (11th century) on the shores of the small lake of Novate Mezzola. At the end of Lake Como, where the Mera river flows into the lake and forms the border between Valtellina and Valchiavenna, lies the oasis of Pian di Spagna, a nature reserve for native bird species. Here are ideal opportunities for beautiful walks, cycling or horse riding.
The province of Lecco begins on the east bank. The first village is Colico with the fortress "Forte di Fuentes", built by the Spanish and a military seat during the Spanish rule. The Piona Abbey (Abbazia di Piona) is a real medieval gem. In Bellano the beautiful church "SS. Nazzaro e Celso" and the famous "Orrido", a gorge of the Pioverna torrent, are worth seeing.
In the picturesque town of Varenna the "Villa Monastero", the "Villa Cipressi" and the romantic "Lovers' Promenade" invite you to visit.
Above Varenna The castle of Vezio (Castello di Vezio) is about 5 minutes away by car. From there you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views over Lake Como. From Varenna there is a ferry connection (car) to Bellagio.
In Mandello del Lario , motorcycle fans can visit the Moto Guzzi Museum.
Lecco is a very dynamic city in terms of economy and industry. The Villa Manzoni and the Community Museum (MuseoComunale) deserve special mention. Alessandro Manzoni set his famous novel "The Fiancés" in the city of Lecco. There are great opportunities for excursions in the mountains to nearby Valsassina and for climbing tours in the "Grigne" (mountains of Lecco).
