Where is Lake Como?

Lake Como, also known as Lario, is considered the most beautiful lake in the Northern Italian Lakes. Lake Como belongs to   Lombardy region and is located around 50 km north of Milan. Lake Como (Swiss spelling) represents, next to Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore, the third largest lake of the three great ones . Lake Como is a partially fjord-like lake in the shape of an upside-down Y and is located in the north of up to almost 3,000 m high mountains.

The western arm of the lake , which extends from Como to the north, is clearly the more developed part for tourism. Here you will find numerous magnificent villas that testify to the wealth of Lombardy in the 18th and 19th centuries (you should definitely visit the beautiful garden of Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo).

The eastern arm of the lake, which stretches from Lecco to the north, comprises far fewer villas than the west side and is also much rougher in terms of the landscaping.

The scenic high point of the Sees represents (at the junction of the two arms of the lake) the triangle of the places Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna , which are connected by a car. Menaggio has a beautiful promenade. Bellagio, located on the tip of the peninsula in the center of the lake, with beautiful narrow streets and Varenna, on the east side of the lake, with a medieval townscape that is well worth seeing.

Anyone visiting Lake Como must definitely see these three Have seen villages. Menaggio is an ideal starting point, as this place can be reached relatively easily (coming from Como or Lugano). From Menaggio to the north, the lake becomes a bit more "rustic" and sporty. The villas are becoming fewer and you will meet the sporty tourist here. Sailing or windsurfing is on the agenda here. In Domaso, the windsurfing scene of Lake Como finds its climax as the wind conditions here are most favorable. Several windsurfing schools and campsites offer ideal conditions for this.

How big is Lake Como?

Lake Como has a length of 46 km.
The deepest Position at Nesso with 418 meters.
Height above sea level 197 m slm
Area 146 km2
Width 4.2 km

If you want to hike on Lake Como you will get your money's worth. The tour to Monte Generoso is particularly recommended here (from Argegno you can drive up to the Valle d & rsquo; Intelvi). This is a wonderful mountain with a view (1,700 m) on the border with Switzerland. While you climb the summit from Italy on beautiful approximate paths that lead through many green meadows and large blueberry fields, you can comfortably go up from the Swiss side by cogwheel train. The view extends to the distant snow-capped Monterosa.

A boat trip on the lake is also one of the highlights. It gets particularly nice when you catch an old paddle steamer (unfortunately there are only two of them). It is a really wonderful photo opportunity to catch such a paddle steamer as a foreground motif.

If you want to eat well, a recommendation: In Lenno, around 8 km South of Menaggio, there is the Trattoria S. Stefano, Piazza XI Febbraio, 3, Tel .: 0344 55434, where you can eat well. Since this is a small restaurant (around 30 seats inside and 20 on the terrace), we recommend that you book in advance. You have to calculate with 25 euros per person (including drinks).

If you want to know what the weather is currently on Lake Como , you should go to the live webcam of the vineyard property Casa Rina, in Gravedona , which is updated every 15 minutes and where there is an excellent one Weather report there. In addition, lots of useful information about Lake Como
