Musica sull´Acqua

The festival has been held in Colico on the northernmost shore of Lake Como every July since 2005, where the audience and the participating musicians experience unforgettable moments surrounded by colors , Sounds and smells of summer on the beautiful Lake Como.

This year, too, the annual and very popular "Music Festival" Musica sull Acqua takes place in the Piona Abbey . Under the monastery dome, international artists offer an interplay of overtures, musicals and symphonies.

The Abbazia di Piona monastery is beautifully located in the Olgiasca district of Colico. The monastery consists of the church of San Nicola, which was built in a typical Romanesque style between 1252 and 1257. According to some sources, the monastery was founded in the 6th century by Benedictine monks. In any case, Byzantine style frescoes and a Romanesque-Gothic crucifix can still be seen in the abbey, which is really worth seeing since 1935 the monastery. To this day, the Cistercian monks have preserved the ancient art of herbal distillation, which you can also buy there.
You can reach the Abbey of Piona by car or, what is particularly recommended, connected with one Boat excursion across the abbey harbor.
