Festival Palio del Baradello

The whole theme of the festival "Palio del Baradello" in Como sees itself not only as a magnificent historical reconstruction, but as a representation of the historical   and cultural events.
Como in the year of the Lord 1159:
The historical parade represents the triumphal entry   of "Barbarossa" Emperor Friedrich I of Swabia and his wife Beatrix of Burgundy in the city of Como.
To the sounds of the trumpeters and drummers, the victorious imperial troops and the allied troops of Como, which After months of siege, the common enemy had defeated the city of Milan, through the solemnly decorated streets of the city.
Emissaries, soldiers, flag-bearers, dignitaries, knights on horseback and flings with historical war machines and cannons round off this splendid parade.
Como wakes up the festive days of yesteryear with the "Palio del Baradello" and relives the glorious past that the city proudly celebrates.

The commemoration of the events of that time is held every year as the Palio del Baradello Festival in the city of Como from the end of August to the middle of September.
A magical moment where you   can feel back in middle age.

The participants compete in three hard-fought and spectacular races:
- & ldquo; LA GIOSTRA & ldquo; (Knight tournament)
- & ldquo; LA CARIOLANA & ldquo; (race with tandem wooden cart)
- & ldquo; IL TIRO ALLA FUNE & rdquo; (Tug of war)
