The
Alprose Chocolate Museum in Caslano near Lugano presents the world of chocolate- from its beginnings until today. This museum shows the origin, production and history of chocolate. From the purely historical aspects and individual achievements to the first production facilities and finally to today's diversity, there is an overview of all aspects of an unmistakable product.
Cocoa is already used by the Olmecken around 1000 mentioned before Christ. But we know for sure that around 600 AD, the Mayans, followed by the Aztecs, were the first to appreciate all the advantages of chocolate.
In 1502, thanks to Columbus, cocoa came to Europe and spread quickly in Italy and then in France. Since the middle of the 18th century, chocolate gradually developed into a mass product in the course of the industrial revolution.
In the Alprose factory, visitors can walk down a passerelle to follow the various phases of chocolate production during the production period from Monday to Friday: from the liquefaction of the cocoa to the formation of bars and for packaging. Soaked in a delicious cocoa scent, they look at the detailed explanations of the photographs of the ultramodern machines used to make chocolate today. History and origin.
The tour ends in the "Nostalgia" shop, where you can taste the diverse Alprose products as you wish. From traditional bars of chocolate to elaborate packaging, you can buy delicious specialties in a wide variety of forms. The decidedly low factory prices allow you to prolong the pleasure of a fascinating visit.
