Castello di Vezio - Castle above Varenna

You can enjoy a wonderful view from the tower of the "Castello di Vezio". from the village Varenna in approx. 30 minutes (distance approx. 800 meters).

The one from the early Middle Ages (11th century) and several times rebuilt castle with a spy tower, the castle of Vezio is today a fortress with a square floor plan with a high wall and a central keep, which can be reached via a functional drawbridge. The whole building is surrounded by an olive grove of over a thousand trees. The underground passages, which have been open to the public since the spring of 1999, probably date back to the First World War.

Vezio Castle, located on a hill at the exit of the Esino valley, you can reach it both by car and on foot. from the Varenna. After an extensive restoration, the 14th century castle tower is open to visitors again.

Recently you can also visit the underground secret passages of the fortress with a guide. There is an exhibition of old wine-making equipment.

Falcon show

Since 2004, Castello Vezio has had its own falcon rearing facility. The visitors can watch the training and breeding phases of these birds of prey every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In the afternoon, the falconer will be happy to demonstrate the flying skills of these beautiful birds of prey.
