It is a small but probably one of the most famous places on the lake.
The idyllic village on the west bank of Lake Como is divided into two districts.
Cadenabbia is located directly on the lake, Griante, the historic district a little higher on the slope, can be reached via a panoramic stairway.
Many visitors came and still come here to Lake Como, especially in the summer months. In the past it was above all the noble Englishmen, writers and musicians who were inspired by the aura of the place to create the most beautiful texts and scores. Goethe and Heine, for example, but Stendhal too, described the Tremezzina in his travel diary in enthusiastic words. And then there was Giuseppe Verdi, who spent months here in the Villa Margherita Ricordi and composed his opera La Traviata.
However, Cadenabbia achieved his current fame especially through Chancellor Adenauer who spent his annual vacation in Villa Collina right next to Villa Carlotta.
He considered Cadenabbia to be his second home and from 1957 to 1966 he stayed here up to 3 times a year. In 1977- 10 years after his death & ndash; The villa was bought by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and expanded into an international meeting center for politics, business and art.
Worth seeing in the village and the surrounding area
The small Grianter parish church from the 16th century It is assumed that the oldest wall of the church actually dates back to the end of the 4th century- with paintings by Belotti from the 18th century, by Maganza and Ferrari.
The pilgrimage church San Martino , which originally goes back to Roman times, can be reached via a steep path, but from there you are rewarded with a fantastic view.
The Villa Collina is probably the most important building in Cadenabbia. Konrad Adenauer spent his holidays here, where a medieval tower still rose at the end of the 19th century.
