The Bottonera mill was built in 1867 . The mill of the former pasta factory Moro is in the old artisan district of Chiavenna in the Bottonera in the upper part of the city between the river Mera and the castle square. This is an area where many craftsmen used to be located, which used water power of the Mera river, which was routed through a canal system.
In the artisan district of Chiavenna there were once several mills, a paper mill, a hammer mill, two cotton wool factories and several beer breweries the pasta factory- Pastificio di Chiavenna Moro Pasta-, which still produces today at the new location at the entrance to Chiavenna.
The Bottonera mill was structured on three floors and works through a complex device of pulleys and belts and millstones. She milled continuously, day and night.
The work was coordinated by a master miller who, with the help of a group of workers, checked the correct operation of the machines and the bag load of work products: flour, bran, wheat by-products, etc.
The mill was built in the seventies Years ago. Thanks to the commitment of volunteers who worked for around nine thousand hours for free, this important testimony was completely restored. Today it can be visited as a museum.
