Art exhibition - Brueghel Dynasty Villa Olmo in Como

Brueghel, Dutch family that produced various artists in the 16th and 17th centuries. The progenitor and at the same time the most important is Pieter Brueghel the & auml; older called de Drol & ldquo; the funny one & ldquo; or Bauernbruegel , was a painter of the Dutch Renaissance. He is well known for his depictions of rural life in the Duchy of Brabant (Flanders) in the 16th century.

He was a painter and knew a lot about erasure. Born around 1525/1530 probably in Breda, in what is now the Dutch province of North Brabant, in the village of Breugel, which lies on the Dommel and is now connected to the Son opposite to form a municipality. Brueghel also got the name from that village.

He led the Flemish landscape painting of the 16th century to its peak, established the Dutch peasant genre and created numerous allegorical works, the refer to proverbs, folk culture and humanistic culture. In 1563 he married Mayken Coecke (sometimes she is also called Maria Coecke van Aelst), the daughter of his former teacher, in the chapel church in Brussels. Not far from the church he finally settled down in Hoogstraat 132.

His two sons Jan and Pieter the Younger , as well as Jan’s son and his son also painted, but none of them was as successful as Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Bruegel died on September 5, 1569 and, like his wife Maria, was buried in the chapel church in Brussels.

Bruegel became particularly well known very early on (for example in Carel van Mander's judgment) for his depictions of rural life as found in the country wedding or the country dance. However, Bruegel's oeuvre can by no means be reduced to this; in fact, only a very small part of his oeuvre consists of such genre painting. Bruegel's imagery is extremely complex, every little detail of his works is intentional and usually a carrier of meaning.

Together with his sons, Pieter Brueghel the Younger (called & ldquo ; H & ouml; llenbrueghel & ldquo;) and Jan Brueghel the Elder (& ldquo; Blumenbrueghel & ldquo;) , he founded the Brueghel artist dynasty. Pieter Brueghel the Younger took over his father's workshop material and produced almost series copies of his father's compositions. Jan Brueghel the Elder only copied some of his father's pictures, but already in his own miniature style, and then developed on his own to become the most important cabinet painter in Antwerp in the early 17th century.

Through its artistic creation, the Brueghel dynasty has an immense influence; practiced on all of Dutch genre painting; also to the Dutch, even more so to the Flemish, whose greatest master Adrian Brouwer has its origins   by Breueghel   cannot deny.
