Art exhibition -Chagall Villa Olmo in Como With paintings by CHAGALL, KANDINSKY, MALEVIC- the great masters of the Russian avant-garde

The exhibition, curated by Sergio Gaddi, reviewer for the culture of the city of Como and Evgenia Petrova, scientific director of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, presents 80 art works, including oil and tempera, from April 4 to July 26, 2009 and drawings, from important public collections in Russia, such as the State Russian Museum of St. Petersburg, as well as from the museums of Saratov, Tula and Ivanovo, and from many private collectors from around the world.

Chagall, Kandinsky, Malevic and Filonov, albeit with different perspectives on painting, are moving away from the language of logic and the traditional middle class, by overcoming the dominant vision of French Impressionism to create the formal innovation of Cubism and the tensions of Suprematism and to abstain from the modern.

The concept of the Russian avant-garde is very large and ranges from figurative work on the forms of the twentieth century, the development of the whole new representation of non-objectivity to the negation of representation on canvas.

Yet the movement's cultural significance lies in the fact that it
not only expressing within the boundaries of art, but conquering intellectual and social classes and making modernity a need for the minds of contemporary people.

Today, in the year of the centenary of Futurism, the exhibition has a special value, as it offers the visitor a perspective for analysis complementary to the Italian point of view and it is essential to fully understand and understand the phenomenon of the avant-garde up to 1930 to be appreciated, because Maiakovskij's suicide symbolically shows the end of the movement and signals the change to the Stalinist era in 1934.

The Villa Olmo exhibition begins with works by Chagall from the first Russian period, which show his passion and close connection with the birthplace of Vitebsk.

Among the masterpieces are the lovers in blue from 1914, the red Jew and the mirror from 1915, enigmatic works rich in ideas and suggestions also from 1915.

In order to arrive at the work that Kandinsky has created in about ten years, inspired by the theoretical vision published in the volume “The Spiritual in Art” from 1910, with extraordinary paintings as abstract compositions. The landscape of 1915, and in 1917 the painting Twilight.

The core of the narrative of the exhibition is characterized by more than 20 masterpieces by Malevic, showing the entire expressive parable of the master from the post-impressionative phase to the cubist experience, with works such as the cow and the violin from 1913 to Suprematism with the famous red Painting from 1915, and the subsequent return to figuration.

A particular merit of the exhibition is the presence of fifteen extraordinary works by Pavel Filonov, a master of analytical art who is a real discovery for most, an artist who is still very little known to the public, but of great expressionistic and visionary power testifies.
